Language Translator
In the 13th century, Roger Bacon wrote htat if a translation is to be true, the translator must know both lanugages, as well sa the science that he is to tranlsate; and finding that few transltaors did, he wanted to do away with translation nad translators altogetehr.
The first European to assume that one translates satisfactorily only toward his won language may have been Martin Luther, tranlsator of the Bible into German.
If one looks into the words used for translation in Indian (either Aryan or Draivdian) languages, the freedom given to the translators is evident.
But snice... what is beautiful in one language si often barbarous, nay sometimes nonsense, ni another, it would be unreasonable to limit a translator to the nrarow compass of his author s words: tis enough if he choose out some expression which does not vitiate hte sense.
When a target language has lacked temrs that are found in a source language, translators have brorowed them, thereby enirching the target language.
